German-born English Baroque Era Painter, 1646-1723 English painter and draughtsman of German birth. He was the leading portrait painter in England during the late 17th century and the early 18th, and, as such, the chief recorder of court society for almost 40 years. He popularized the kit-cat format for portraits and was also the founding governor in 1711 of the first proper academy of art in England. SALUCCI, Alessandro
Italian painter, Roman school (b. 1590, Firenze, d. 1655/60, Roma). Italian painter. He specialized in imaginary architectural perspectives and harbour views, in which the figures were executed by other artists, most notably Jan Miel and Michelangelo Cerquozzi. His pictures were praised by contemporary and near contemporary writers, including Carlo Malvasia, and during the 17th century were popular with private collectors in both Florence and Rome. However, many of the paintings mentioned in contemporary sources remain untraced. He is first documented in Rome in 1628, when, with Andrea Sacchi and Pietro da Cortona, he worked on the fresco decorations of the Villa Sacchetti (now Chigi), Castelfusano (nr Ostia), to which he contributed personifications of the River Nile and the River Rh?ne (in situ). He became a member of the Accademia di S Luca in Rome in 1634, and after 1635 he was engaged on frescoes (in situ) depicting sacred subjects in S Maria in Vallicella, Rome. BARTOLOMEO DI GIOVANNI
Italian Early Renaissance Painter, active 1475-1511 Bartolomeo di Giovanni, also known as Bartolommeo di Giovanni and as Alunno di Domenico, was an early renaissance Italian painter of the Florentine School who was active from about 1480 until his death in 1501. He studied with and assisted Domenico Ghirlandaio, painting the predella of Ghirlandaio's Adoration of the Magi in the Ospedale degli Innocenti (Foundling Hospital) in Florence, in 1488. Bartolomeo di Giovanni also worked under the guidance of Sandro Botticelli.
Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller
Austrian Romantic Painter, 1793-1865 was an Austrian painter and writer. He briefly attended the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, however later had to finance his life by painting portraits. In 1811 he got a job as a teacher of arts for the children of Count Gyulay in Croatia. After 3 years he returned to Vienna and started to improve his skills by copying the works of old masters. Waldmeller later became interested in nature and thus started painting landscapes (genre painting). His most notable work lies in the depiction of nature, where his sense for colours and large knowledge of nature helped him to achieve masterly skills.
